The Society of St. Vincent de Paul (SSVP) is a lay Catholic organization. Membership is open to all those who desire to live their faith by serving Christ by serving their neighbours. Volunteers with SSVP are called to do Christ’s work in their own communities. These volunteers are called Vincentians.
In parishes where SSVP is active, many Vincentians deliver emergency food baskets to individuals & families in need. Other Vincentians help distribute nutritious food, like bread, canned goods & fresh produce that may otherwise be wasted, or organize parish schools to collect food & money to support SSVP’s work.
In addition to providing food to economically-vulnerable Calgarians, Vincentians sometimes help people access funds for housing, utilities & transportation. Vincentians who conduct Home Visits work with individuals & families who need help accessing other social & economic supports.
Globally, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul aims to be recognized as a global organization that seeks the integral dignity of those in greater need.
The Society of St. Vincent de Paul strives to be a network of friends, seeking personal holiness through service to the needy and in deference of social justice.
