By the fall of 1972, the parish population of St. Patrick's Church of Midnapore had surpassed the church's capacity; For the next two years, Mass was celebrated at St. Boniface School for Catholics in this area. In September of 1974, Bishop O'Byrne officially established St. Bonaventure Parish. A chapel was constructed within the newly built St. Bonaventure Jr. High School, in what is now their music room.
The present St. Bonaventure Church was opened in 1982. Major renovations were undertaken in 1996 during which Mass was held in the gymnasium at St. Bonaventure Jr. High School. The chapel was added & the church narthex was enlarged. Seating capacity at the church was increased & a "prayer room" (formerly known as the crying room) was relocated. Additional meeting rooms were built & the parish offices were moved from the the priests' residence to the church building.
A few years later, the basement under the new office area was developed to provide a larger meeting area for the youth of the parish. This room is now named the Fr. Stephenson Room after our former pastor Fr. Bill Stephenson. Since then our parish has undergone improvements to the sanctuary, the choir area in the church and a complete renovation of the downstairs Parish Hall.
